Oxford St, London, UK. 14th May, 2016. Up to one hundred protesters stage a demonstration at Philip Green's Topshop flagship store near Oxford Circus in central London. The activists, who at one point were joined by Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, are demanding a living wage for all workers, both the outsourced cleaners and the in-house sales assistants. During the demonstration the activists, made up of Class War members, former Topshop employees and sympathisers then proceeded to occupy Oxford Circus. Police reinforcements were deployed to remove the activists from Oxford Circus who then attempted to storm John Lewis where skirmishes between protesters and police occurred. The demonstrators then made their way west along Oxford Street where they again attempted to storm a further Topshop store near to Marble Arch.The protest is part of a nationwide day of action with similar demonstrations being held in Liverpool, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
